The state of New York allows sports betting, but does not allow mobile online wagering.
The first legal sports bets were placed in New York on July 16, 2019 at the Rivers Casino in Schenectady. The opening of the state’s first legal sportsbook came six years after New York passed a law to allow sports betting at four on-site locations. After lying dormant for years, the law was revived after the Supreme Court ruling in 2018 and the issuance of regulations earlier this year. The current law does not allow for mobile wagering, after a bill to permit online sports wagering stalled back in 2019.
